Self-Funding Your Care
If you or your loved one has savings or assets above a certain threshold, you may need to fund your care privately.
How does self-funding work?
• You pay directly for the care services you receive from Daisy Homecare.
• There’s no involvement from the local authority, so you maintain full control over your care arrangements.
• You can choose the level of care that suits your needs, whether it’s daily visits, overnight care, or live-in care.
Key considerations:
• Savings threshold: In the UK, if your capital and savings are over £23,250, you are generally required to fund your care. This includes savings, investments, and property (excluding your main home if you’re receiving care at home).
• Financial planning: It’s a good idea to seek advice from a financial adviser to explore long-term options like equity release or care annuities to fund care.
Local Authority Funding
If you have limited savings and income, you may be eligible for financial assistance from your local council to cover some or all of your care costs
Eligibility process:
•Needs assessment: Contact your local authority to request a care needs assessment. A social worker will assess whether you qualify for care based on your personal circumstances and care requirements.
•Financial assessment: After your care needs are confirmed, the local authority will assess your financial situation to determine how much you may need to contribute. If your savings are below the threshold (£23,250), the council may cover some or all of your care costs.
Key considerations:
• You may still be asked to contribute to your care if you have more than £14,250 in savings or other assets, but this contribution will be on a sliding scale.
• The local authority may recommend a care provider, but you can choose Daisy Homecare as your preferred care provider.
Direct Payments
If you qualify for financial assistance from the local authority, you can opt to receive direct payments. This gives you greater control over how your care is arranged and who provides it.
How do direct payments work?
• Instead of the council arranging your care, they provide you with a direct payment to use for care services of your choice.
• You can then arrange your care services with Daisy Homecare directly, giving you the flexibility to tailor the care to your needs.
Key considerations:
• You must use direct payments to purchase care services that meet the needs outlined in your care assessment.
• You will manage your care payments and ensure the funds are spent appropriately.
NHS Continuing Healthcare (CHC)
If your needs are primarily health-related, you may be eligible for NHS Continuing Healthcare, which is fully funded by the NHS.
Eligibility process:
• You will undergo an assessment by healthcare professionals to determine if your needs are primarily medical rather than social.
• If eligible, the NHS will cover the full cost of your care, whether at home or in a care home.
Key considerations:
• Eligibility is based on complex medical needs and is reviewed regularly.
• You can still receive care through Daisy Homecare if you qualify for NHS Continuing Healthcare.
