Not every visit needs to be about physical care. Our companionship visits are about having a friendly, familiar face around — someone to share a cup of tea with, go through the post, or sit and talk. For people living alone, that regular contact matters as much as anything else we do.

Carers can accompany you to appointments, help with light errands, or just be there for company during the parts of the day that feel longest. It’s a flexible service that works well on its own or alongside hourly personal care.

Is Companionship Care Right for You?

Companionship care might be the right fit if:

  • You or a relative live alone and would benefit from regular, friendly contact
  • Loneliness or isolation is affecting mood, appetite, or general wellbeing more than any physical health issue
  • You don’t need help with personal care, but getting to appointments, the shops, or social activities has become harder alone
  • A family member lives too far away to visit as often as they’d like, and wants peace of mind that someone checks in
  • You’re considering care for the first time and want to start with something lighter touch than personal care

What Your Companion Can Help With

  • Conversation and company: regular visits built around real conversation, not just a box-ticking check-in
  • Shared activities: games, reading, hobbies, or simply watching TV together
  • Accompanying you out: to GP or hospital appointments, the shops, the hairdresser, or a walk
  • Light errands: collecting prescriptions, posting letters, or picking up shopping
  • Mealtime company: sharing a cup of tea or a meal so eating doesn’t feel like a solitary chore
  • A familiar, consistent face: the same companion builds a real relationship over time, not a rotating cast of strangers

Frequently Asked Questions

Is companionship care the same as personal care?

No. Companionship visits focus on company, conversation, and getting out and about. If you also need help with washing, dressing, or medication, we can combine companionship with hourly personal care.

How often can I have a companionship visit?

As often as suits you, from a weekly visit to several times a week. There’s no minimum.

Can companionship visits include transport to appointments?

Yes, our companions can accompany you to GP and hospital appointments, or other errands out of the house.

Can I use Direct Payments for companionship care?

Yes. We support clients funding their own care through Direct Payments and can help you set this up.

What if I want to add more support later?

Easily done. Many clients start with companionship visits and add personal care or more hours later as needs change.
